Mijn eerste reactie is: geweldig, briljant idee. Questions questions....

Jaarlijks honderden nieuwe chemische stoffen erbij.

You had only a few hours of sleep and you don't look forward to the day, drained. Today is one of those days for me. I really don't understand where I get the energy from to write this post. Husband is away and both children sleep in my bed. Three is a crowd. Finally, at 5:30 I decided to move to another bed. From 5:30 to 7:00 I was worried: 'how am I going to get through the day feeling exhausted?'. I woke up really really cranky and could not hide it from my children. They tried their best. 8 Year old Lisa said she was going to be my helper the whole day, maybe even for 2 days! She was going to do everything I wanted. Sounds great doesn't it? Very sweet. 11 Year old Nina had a different approach. She mixed her own blend of oils and put it in the diffuser. She said "Mom, come inside, it smells really nice, I created a blend just for you". She continued: "Peppermint to get you more energy, Balance to make you feel, well, balanced, Elevation to improve your mood and I also added Serenity. No idea what it does, but it sounds like you could do with some Serenity". She added: "I take back everything I said yesterday". We had a bit of an argument yesterday.
Indeed, it smelled divine. Despite my tiredness, I went for a run. I know I can't run tomorrow, nor the day after, so today was the day. When I came home, the diffuser was still on. Oooops! Happens when you're tired. It smelled lovely. And this is how I continued my day. Like it or not, I made a small to-do-list yesterday and I just worked through them step by step. Without this is I think I would have been lost, thinking what to do next, brains not working properly. I even filmed a little video for a small group of runners, helping them with tips and tricks for their upcoming run! Weird, getting so much done in this state. My point is actually: children often just seem to know what's best for their parents. Having a little 8 year old helper is wonderful. When I look up the oils they are JUST the right ones! With a big big emphasis on Peppermint, this kicks butt. So I'm sniffing away on the Peppermint, behind my computer, getting more things done than I expected, and it feels great! Tomorrow is another day, let's be grateful for this day, tired or not. x Barbara Would you be interested in a talk on healthy food and healthy lifestyle? My talks are interactive. But when it comes to toothpaste, shampoo or oil pulling, you might want to use the fractionated version. This will prevent your sink from clogging up with build up coconut oil. Last weekend I created a liquid hand soap with fractionated coconut oil and the whole family loves it! It sounds silly but everytime I get home I can't wait to wash my hands ;o) See my fb post in which I share my recipe of liquid hand soap.
I know it's healthy to drink more water, I've learned it, I advice it to other people and still I'm not doing it myself. I can think of various reasons why I don't: water tastes boring, I'm too busy, I just don't think of it, I don't want to go to the bathroom all the time etc. etc. Probably the same reasons why you might not be drinking enough. So as of today, I'm trying to improve my drinking habits, and a few tips I can give you and I will be using myself:
We still don't know exactly what is 'enough' but I believe it varies from person to person. A very simple rule is to keep an eye out for the colour of your urine, see very handy picture below. If it's light in colour, you're doing great! If it's dark, take action! I have seen this chart for the first time in the bathroom of a school in the tropics, but I think this chart will be great anywhere. We, in the northern hemisphere, also get dehydrated by the weather, despite the cold during the winter. My practitioner advised me to drink 4,5 liter water. A day. Yes, you heard that right, 4,5 liter of water!!!! I might as well move my office to the bathroom. Anyway, I get the point. If I can't make the 4,5 liter a day, it might be 2,5. Even that is better than my 5 cups of fluid a day. What I personally also really like is the Hydranome water bottle. They are reasonably new on the market and I have been using their water bottle for a while now. They have thought of an easy way to keep track of how much you drink during a day and you can even download their app to make it even easier for you to keep track of your water intake. Also positive, at least that's what I think: it's a family owned business, the bottle is made in the NL, of good quality and safe material.
