They all have their charm and I can see the positive side of them. But I never was a true fan of them for the simple reason that I often hear people can't maintain the diet, go back to their old habits, and gain everything back again. Clients raving about itI was introduced to the Metabolic Diet recently. It is actually not new as it has been around for a while. Usually I'm not very interested in diets but this time I kept on hearing success stories, over and over again, from REAL people, not just from books and websites. I have actually talked to people, asked them questions and they were raving about it. When I mentioned this diet to one of my customers as a possible option - who got stuck and didn't lose any more, despite my dietary advice - she immediately said she wanted to give it a try. And she wanted to start NOW! Because she had plans, was going to travel for work, so wanted to have the program finished by the time she was going to travel. I told her I was going to join her at the same time. Not because I wanted to lose weight, but because I really wanted to understand the program, and wanted to know why so many people are raving about it. And this way, whenever I come across a customer who might be interested in this diet, I can tell them, first hand, how it feels to be on this diet. Not a dietLet me set one thing straight: it is not a diet! It is a reset program. Although the Metabolic Diet is called a 'diet', it is not a 'diet' per se. Just like a computer, the cells in our body are programmed in a certain way. And sometimes, this program doesn't serve us well as our program has changed over the years. This can happen for many reasons: various diets, not eating enough, illness, stress, changes in hormone levels. This Metabolic Dietwill help you jump start and 'reset' your internal program, leading to weight loss and long lasting changes. This program was originally developed by a medical doctor in Germany, based on eating low-glycemic foods. It used to be for the 'rich and famous'. What makes the program work so well is that it jump starts your metabolism. One of the great side benefits of this program, besides losing weight, is it will greatly increase your energy levels due to the support with extremely high quality all natural supplements. This will also greatly increase your mood and therefore increases the success of this program. No hunger-suppressants, no hormones, just honest food, good quality vitamins, minerals and plant- and fruit extracts. At first, this program looked good to me on paper. I liked the idea of not having to starve, the use of healthy food and the support by high quality supplements. My current clients have reached their weight goals and are very happy about the program. Due to the enthusiasm of many clients I have decided to add this program to my services. As so many people have benefited from it, I will be able to help more people losing weight and keeping it off. The Metabolic Program in a NutshellThe program is divided in four phases:
Exclusive purchase of supplements to support, nourish and detox your body. Get support for free!Would you like to know more? If yes, please contact me so I can tell you more about it. You can either start this program on your own, or start together with a group of people. While on the program, you will be supported by Health Sense through a closed Facebook Page, e-mail support, daily updates, recipes and background information which gives you a deep understanding of the program.
I am running a Metabolic Diet Group at the moment (started in January 2017), with great success, and I am supporting them for free. I will be running one more group for free starting April 2017! Join me while it lasts by clicking here. Found them! I love these little fruits and I'm not sure what I should call them as I've heard so many different names: ashwagandha, physalis, Indian ginseng, winter cherry... They are lovely. And hard to find. At least in my neighbourhood. I didn't try really really hard to be honest so they may be just around the corner. But I stumbled upon them yesterday in this great reasonably new fruit and veg shop in Amsterdam called Green Haven.
www.greenhaven.nl Not only do they have Ashwagandha, but also, for my culture quirky items, such as bitter melon (sopropo) and black garlic. Bitter melon is very uhm... bitter, and black garlic is basically fermented garlic and tastes like... heaven! Back to the Ashwagandha: it's delicious in salads. Even my picky 10 year old likes them as a stand alone snack. To me it tastes like a mix between tomato and orange. The best part is: it's HEALTHY! It is one of the most important and powerful herbs in Ayurvedic healing and was and still is used for a wide variety of conditions, such as stress, lack of energy, concentration problems just to name a few. So, off to the shops where they DO sell it, and if not, there is always Geenhaven in Amsterdam :o) Do you know that feeling? You just had dinner and not long after you're hungry again! You wonder what you should eat, you open up the fridge and grab something. It might be healthy, it might be junk. It happened to me a few days ago. And I'm usually super aware of what I eat but I ended up with a pack of prawn crackers (kroepoek) and I finished it all by myself. B.t.w. they are not very healthy, just fattening, just like crisps. And while I was eating it I knew exactly why this happened! It could have been avoided too. And once you are aware of it, you too can avoid situations like this. Here's what happened. My husband was in the mood for risotto and decided to prepare it himself. It was a lazy Sunday anyway so I was actually really happy about hubby doing the grocery shopping AND the cooking! The risotto was delicious, with shrimps and garlic, we ate the lot and hubby was happy and proud of his cooking skills. However, some important ingredients were missing: No veg! No salad. Nothing else but the rice really that 'comes out of the ground or grows on trees'. So ofcourse my stomach reacted to it a few hours later: hungry! The prawn crackers looked so tempting so I gave in. I honestly understand how other people feel when they open up a pack of crisps, sweets, chocolate, or whatever they fancy. Once you take one bite you're done! The food industry is really good at understanding our taste buds.
One very easy way to avoid situations like this is just simply: add veg to your meals!!! It will make you feel full for longer and will thank you for giving it what it needs. Bon apetit :o)
But other than that I felt quite healthy and energetic. Important note: I also drank about 4 cups of ultra ultra stong black tea, every day. Not the weak version you’re probably thinking of, I mean tea that is most likely stronger than coffee. Two bags of Lipton black tea in one cup kind of tea. After going raw I noticed a difference right the next day! I was not as restless and impatient anymore. I felt more calm and at the same time more energetic and very clear in my head. Bonus! What I also liked about it was that I have never been hungry during my raw experiment, ever. There were always healthy snacks available should the occasion of hunger happen. No coffee or black tea either. This went on for two weeks. The downside? I thought it was a lot of work! All the chopping and the cutting, man! This would definitely not have been a suitable approach for a full time out of the house working mom or dad. On top of that, my children and husband did not even want to try my food. Just by the looks of it they passed. I literally had to cook two separate meals, several meals a day. This added to the daily stress. I lost 1 kilo. My 40+ little tummy did not disappear, maybe slightly, I’m not sure. Also, I missed the warmth of the food, especially now during winter time. That lovely feeling of a hot soup warming up the inside of the body. My intention was to do this for three weeks but I decided to quit after two weeks. I’d learned my lesson and didn’t need another week to get the point. My lesson: raw food gave me more energy, more clarity, more feeling calm. It is a lovely feeling! And I would love to feel like this forever. Something else interesting happened after I quit. I pigged out like I’d never done before! This is strange, because I’m usually not a pig-outer at all. I’m usually in control, eat very healthy, and have a fall out on chocolate every now and then. And this being ‘in control’ does not feel like an effort. It’s just the way I eat. The first raw-free day I needed a double omelet with melted cheese for lunch, I needed a hamburger with the lot that evening (home made, so not as unhealthy as it sounds, topped with lots of veg). On day two I pigged out on fries with 2 mini tubs of mayonnaise from the Burger King after having dropped of my mom at the airport. Believe me, the last time I ate at Burger King was four years ago, it was an emergency because we were on holiday, we were hungry and there was nothing better available. On day three I wolved down Swedish meatballs from the Ikea. This behaviour is very not-me at all! My personal explanation for this is: extreme action lead to extreme reaction. Day four, today, I’m getting back into my normal self. I drink uber strong tea again, only one cup a day, that's the plan at least. I’m not craving Burger King anymore. My shopping list looks normal. I think I have learned from it, after all. I have learned I definitely need to add more veg to my diet to be able to continue to feel that relaxed, clear headed and energetic. Hopefully I can achieve this with cooked vegetables rather than everything raw, a mix of both preferably. According Ayurveda, we should not be eating too much raw food because our bodies need the warmth, the ‘fire’ of cooked food. Especially the Vata types, like me, should be careful with raw food. The other types, Pitta or Kapha may tolerate raw food better. I only found out after this whole experiment. Ayurveda seems to be right, all the time, the more I learn about it. All in all it was a great experience as I realise how food can influence my energy levels, my clarity and my mood, it's kind of an empowering feeling. Have a great week! Barbara |
